Mermaid classes: FAQ

Can adults take a mermaid class?
Yes. The SSI Mermaid course is for adults and kids alike, from age 6. Mermaid Explorer is the kids-only version, for ages 6 to 11.
How much is a mermaid class?
The full SSI Mermaid course is RM1,850. Mermaid Explorer (kids) is RM880 for 4 classes. Try Mermaid is RM250. Same prices in KL and Penang.
Do I need my own mermaid tail?
No, mask, tail and fins are included in SSI Mermaid and Try Mermaid.
Do I need to know how to freedive?
No. SSI Mermaid covers all the breath-hold foundations you need, to a max depth of 5 m. Good physical condition is the only requirement.
I'm nervous in the water. Where do I start?
With a 2-hour Try Mermaid session (RM250). Borrow the tail and see how it feels, with your instructor right beside you. Love it? Sign up for SSI Mermaid on the same day and RM200 of your Try fee goes towards it.
My kid is under 12, can they get certified?
Kids from age 6 join the full training. Under current SSI standards the official SSI Mermaid certification is issued from age 12. Younger mermaids get the training, the photos and the skills now, and the card when they hit 12.
Where are your mermaid classes?
In KL: The Lakeview Club in Subang Jaya and Bukit Kiara Pool. In Penang: Relau Aquatic Centre. Underwater Model and Underwater Dance run at Bukit Kiara only.
Can I swim in the ocean with my tail?
Yes, SSI Ocean Mermaid takes the tail to the ocean: 3 open water sessions on a 3D2N island expedition. You'll need SSI Mermaid first.
Can I become a mermaid instructor?
Yes. SSI Mermaid Instructor training needs an existing mermaid certification first. It's planned around each candidate, so we share pricing personally on WhatsApp.
