Freediving in Penang: FAQ

I've never freedived. Where do I start in Penang?
With a 2-hour Try Freediving session (RM250). No experience needed. Love it? Sign up for a course on the same day and RM200 of your Try fee goes towards it. From there, SSI Freediver takes you from your first breath-hold in the pool all the way to the open water, or SSI Pool Freediver lets you learn in the pool until you're ready.
How much is a freediving course in Penang?
The complete SSI Freediver course is RM1,900. SSI Pool Freediver is RM1,180, with pool entry of RM55 per session paid separately. Try Freediving is RM250. Same prices as our KL courses.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No. Our courses start from zero and only ask for good physical condition. If the water makes you nervous, tell us. That's exactly what SSI Pool Freediver is for: you keep training in the pool until you're comfortable.
Can I join alone?
Absolutely. Most of our students sign up on their own, train in a small group, and leave with dive buddies.
Where does the open water part happen?
Pool training is in Penang. The open water part of SSI Freediver is completed on one of our Shello freediving expeditions. The expedition fee is charged separately.
Can I use my training credits in KL too?
Yes. Pool credits work at both Relau Aquatic Centre and The Lakeview Club in Subang Jaya. Bukit Kiara Pool uses its own credits.
Is the SSI certification recognised overseas?
Yes, we're an SSI training center. SSI certifications are recognised worldwide and live digitally in the MySSI app.
